‘Dia De Los Muertos’ Style Trends

It’s a day to remember and prepare special foods in honor of those who have departed.

On this day in Mexico, the streets near cemeteries are filled with decorations of papel picado , flowers, candy , and calaveras (skeletons and skulls).

It is believed that the spirit of the dead visit their families on October 31 and leave on November 2.

In order to celebrate, families will make altars and place ofrendas (offerings) of food such as pan de muertos baked in shapes of skulls and figures, candles, incense, yellow marigolds, and most importantly a photo of the departed soul is placed on the altar.

Morbid to some, but Mexican culture embraces death and celebrates it with the same happiness and joy as life.

Lately, the holiday has garnered favor in the US and even caught the attention of the fashion and interior design community.

Check out some of our favorite “Day of the Dead” home and fashion inspirational pieces.
