Hrithik Roshan watches Krrish 3 with fans

Source : Hindustantimes.com , New Delhi, November 05, 2013

Overwhelmed by the response to Krrish 3, Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan watched the superhero sci-fi saga with his fans.

After watching the movie, Hrithik Roshan tweeted, "What a fun!! Thank u!RT @afsarzaidi: “@Krrish3: Krrish and Kaal meet their fans at Chandan Cinema (cont) http://tl.gd/mtjhmm" (sic)

Directed and produced by Rakesh Roshan, the superhero sci-fi drama, got a grand opening when it came out Friday.

Made on an estimated budget Rs. 100-Rs 150 crore, it collected Rs. 25.5 crore on day one.

Krrish 3 further went on to earn Rs. 23 crore and Rs. 24.3 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted that the Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut and Vivek Oberoi-starrer Krrish 3 will climb further on the box office on Monday.

Krrish 3 rakes in 100 crore in four days

At a time when recent Bollywood films like Akshay Kumar’s Boss and Mickey Virus both saw lukewarm business at the box office, Krrish 3’s `100 crore haul in the first four days of its opening has brought the smiles back on the face of industry insiders.

The Hrithik Roshan-starrer superhero flick, directed by Rakesh Roshan, has thus set a record of sorts. “Despite all the criticism and having a mediocre musical score, Krrish 3 has done phenomenally well. It’s heartening to see a superhero film did so well, considering the last one, RA.One, did so badly,” says trade experts Amod Mehra.
The film, made with a budget of `85 crore, opened on November 1 and did not seen a dip over the weekend, though Diwali is considered to be the worst choice to release a film, especially one of such a large scale.

“Pre-Diwali is the worst period of the year as many theatre owners keep their doors closed because of renovation and re-painting. Rakesh Roshan did a very daring thing by going against norms of the trade and releasing the film,” Mehra explains.

Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan confirms the figures given out by the trade analysts and says, “The total is `108.61 crore. On Monday we made `35.91 crore, which is the highest one-day figure. We have released the film in 4450 screens and the media has figures of only 4000 screens.” The film has also made `24 crores in markets abroad.

Both Abhishek and I would love to blog but don't have enough time to dedicate to it. So for the time being, we will have the media as our communicator."

26. "I am very, very thankful to Gurinder because that film [Bride and Prejudice] was such a clever piece of work, because there she was adapting an English classic, making it so human and so normal in that very Indian family atmosphere which is so natural to us, and presenting it with what was recognised as very signature Bollywood, bringing the musical aspect - and it was widely appreciated the world over. Movie review: Krrish 3 entertains, but lacks originality

Source : Parmita UniyalHindustantimes.com , New Delhi, November 01, 2013

The much-awaited Diwali film is an entertaining mix of spectacle and human-scale drama, but would have been better had it been a tad more original. Hrithik Roshan is brilliant in his double role and Kangana upstages the film’s lead actress Priyanka, says critics.

However, the film is hugely inspired by a variery of Hollywood superhero films that's quite a dampener.
Paloma Sharma, Rediff
Hrithik Roshan, who is usually amazing and was particularly spectacular in films like Lakshya, Guzaarish and Zindagi Na Milegi Doobara seemed energetic - maybe a little too energetic - and ended up being a tad over the top. So filled with emotion was Roshan that he kept shivering every time things got a bit serious. However, he did a good job of doing a double role. Even though he played his own father, Dr. Rohit Mehra, without much alteration to his appearance, it did not seem like both characters were being portrayed by the same actor at all.

All of that aside, Krrish 3 could have been a much better film if it had been a tad more original. The blatant plagiarism from other superhero films, the absolute lack of creativity, has made me lose respect for the makers and the film itself. In conclusion, after watching Krrish 3, all I can say is that I need a therapist.

Krrish 3 is an entertaining mix of spectacle and human-scale drama. Roshan combines his imagination and flair to deliver a film that is sure to capture everyone's imagination. It has something for everybody. For a superhero film fan there are fantasy characters, a super villain, full scale heroism, plot twists and superb action.

A still from the film Krrish 3
Krrish may be a superhero but it is his human side that is so appealing. Hrithik Roshan is oh-so-watchable in every frame. He owns both the roles with such ease. Kangana Ranaut is delightful as an alien making the weird hair and clothes work for her. She even manages to make you feel her pain. Quite an accomplishment that! Every action adventure needs a memorable villain. Vivek Oberoi as Kaal ensures you won't ever forget his act. Priyanka is saddled with a role that doesn't do her justice. She deserved a meatier role.

The special effects are jaw-dropping all right and some of the action sequences are superbly well executed. Especially exciting is the very first rescue stunt that Krrish pulls off.

What Krrish 3 gets absolutely right are the characters of the principal antagonist and his female trouble-shooter, who together create the grand context for Krrish’s war.

Performances
Both Vivek Oberoi and Kangna Ranaut measure up to the demands of their respective roles. The duo often seems to tower over the material.

Kangana, in fact, completely upstages the film’s lead actress. Her presence is far sharper and more impactful.

Priyanka Chopra, in contrast, is saddled with a sketchily written role and is reduced to the status of a hanger-on waiting for things to unfold.

Hrithik Roshan, on his part, breezes through the multiple personas with the requisite zest and conviction.

Mihir Fadnavis, First Post

The superhero of atrocious superhero filmmaking has struck again, and it’s not a pretty sight. Take the most superficial components of X-Men, Batman, Superman, Spiderman and even Shaktimaan; stuff them together in a litter bag, set that bag on fire and inhale the fumes – that’s pretty much what Krrish 3 feels like. The film is two and a half painful hours of poorly presented, unexciting action scenes, awful computer graphics, unimaginative storytelling and Hollywood theft of the most blatant and shameless variety.

Rakesh Roshan has made an unimaginative rip-off, strictly abiding by the guidelines of directing a superhero film. And the man is pretty darn good at it, if you must know. There’s no trick in the rule book that he has missed which exactly is the problem here. His effort is highly unimaginative and bland. From a man who risked into making Koi Mil Gaya at a time when dancing around the trees was a norm, you do expect him to venture into something more challenging than merely trying his hand at the magnanimity of superhero flicks!

Krrish 3 isn’t a terrible film but it is massively disheartening and mood dampening because of its imitative premise. Hrithik reprises his role of Krrish with an enigmatic energy and infallible enthusiasm which is the film’s sole glistening point. The ludicrous storyline is miffing but the chiseled bodied superhero indulges us enough to make this film a decent one time watch this festive season. Don’t expect too much or pine excessive hope on this one. A well intentioned, brave effort but falls notches beneath an exhilarating cinematic experience. I am going with a 2/5.

Performances
Hrithik Roshan as Krrish is perhaps one of Bollywood’s most appropriately sketched characters. He is enigmatic, charismatic and puts up the film’s singular superlative show.

Priyanka Chopra is still high on the sugar rush from Zanjeer and has very little to do in this film as well.

Kangana easily topples as the film’s most striking female character. As the wicked slimy chameleon Kaya, she puts up a devilish show indeed! Making her character look extremely sexy, in her bits she owns the film!

Rakesh Roshan has adapted himself to the fast-changing times. His clutch on the emotional quotient is apparent in every venture, but in Krrish 3, the marriage of content and VFX is the motivating force, its biggest USP, which sets it apart from his previous directorial ventures. The veteran knows with experience that mere VFX minus drama/emotions will fall flat on its face and at the same time, with Hollywood invading the marquee with technical marvels, one has to contend with global standards too. Roshan Sr. smartly assimilates the esteemed formula of good versus evil with the technical wizardry of today to create a visual spectacle that is sure to redefine the escapist cinema we are synonymous with.

On the whole, Krrish-3 has the ingredients that make a splendid superhero film, besides being Rakesh Roshan's most accomplished work so far. Besides a riveting plot, the film scores brownie points thanks to the strong undercurrent of emotions, the clash between the protagonist and antagonist/mutants, the awe-inspiring visual effects, the larger-than-life entertainment and of course, Hrithik Roshan, who is matchless in this avtaar. It's a Diwali bonanza for moviegoers across the globe and is sure to conclude the celebratory period on a high. BLOCKBUSTER.

Madhureeta Mukherjee, The Times of India
Raing: ****1/2

With a visually riveting and emotionally engaging story, intriguing characters, sweeping VFX (unseen thus far on Indian celluloid) Rakesh Roshan's ambitious dream lives up. Yes, it's hugely inspired (by the Bats, Spideys and Wolverines of the West), but our superhero has his own 'X-factor'. Even with all the high-octane car crashes, explosions and 'animatronics', the philosophy is the force behind it all, yet, never overpowering the story.

Rakesh Roshan makes sure you are entertained throughout, be it because of the special effects or the masala plot. The entry scene of Krrish saving a plane from crash landing is well done and that sets the ball rolling. Needless to say one of the great assets of the film is Hrithik Roshan who portrays three roles in this film (Rohit, Krrish, Krishna). In fact, in the action scenes, you just know that there could be no other mainstream star in Bollywood who could do it the way he pulls it off. His newly toned body can give any Hollywood actor a run for their money.

Brad Pitt inspires Manish Paul

Source : Aditi Caroli, Hindustan Times, Mumbai, October 28, 2013

TV anchor-turned-actor Manish Paul revamped his physique for his Bollywood debut, Mickey Virus, by losing 14 kg. Manish believes that your diet is more important than working out if you want to get fit the healthy way.

“People think ki abs sirf machine se bante hai (that
exercising with the help of machines can only help you build abs). But, workout only contributes 30 per cent and 70 per cent depends on your diet. I was eating boiled food — vegetables and chicken — and was off salt, sweets and carbs. Also, I slept for eight hours every day,” says the actor.

But that doesn’t mean you skimp on working out. “I did weights and cardio regularlarly,” says Manish, who is inspired by Hollywood actor Brad Pitt. “I gave my trainer a photo of Brad Pitt and he trained me accordingly. The result was quite close to that picture,” he adds.

Housefull 2 is second best opener of 2012

Neither IPL nor Akshay Kumar's bad form at the box-office proved to be a deterrent for Sajid Khan's multi-starrer. Housefull 2 has garnered Rs. 42 crore in its opening weekend. What's more? It's Akshay Kumar's biggest opener ever.

"The first day collections of the film were Rs. 14 crore. On

Saturday, collections dropped slightly to Rs. 13 crore. On Sunday, Housefull 2 netted a total of Rs. 15 crore, taking its three-day total to Rs. 42 crore (approx. all-India net)," writes trade analyst Komal Nahta in koimoi.com.

"In terms of box-office records, Housefull 2 has the second best opening day collections of 2012, after Agneepath ( Rs. 25 crore)," says Nahta.

The film is going strong in overseas also. "In addition, Housefull 2 collected Rs. 5.50 crore in the Overseas circuit over Thursday and Friday. In the UK, it collected £ 112,075 on Friday. In Australia, Housefull 2 collected A$ 73,143 on Friday. In New Zealand, the Friday collections were NZ$ 34,604. In the UAE, collections on Thursday were AED 725,000," writes Nahta.
Akshay Kumar and Asin in a still from Housefull 2

Akshay Kumar is back with a bang. "Has proved its detractors wrong and has emerged Akshay Kumar's biggest opener. Had a bountiful start on Friday [Rs 14 cr], slided downwards slightly on Saturday, though the fall was marginal [Rs 13 cr], but had a solid Sunday [Rs 16.5 cr], taking the 3-day total to Rs. 43.5 cr nett. Is the second biggest opener of 2012 so far, after AGNEEPATH. The business on Friday and Saturday was affected due to the cricket matches, while the business in North and South circuits got affected due to the strong opposition posed by a Punjabi and Telugu film, respectively. Yet, a fabulous start of Rs. 40 cr + weekend has ensured the film a prime place in the biggest openers' listing," writes Taran Adarsh for Bollywood Hungama.

Sajid Khan was confident about the film's prospects at BO. “I saw the movie last night and I promise you, I am not saying this because I directed this film, I am saying it out of sheer love for cinema as an audience, this film is a blockbuster and I am so proud that I have directed it,” he had said in one of his interviews before the film's release.

I’ve no inhibitions as an actor: Paoli Dam

Paoli Dam in Hate Story

Paoli Dam’s on-screen sexuality and explicit dialogue in the uncensored YouTube trailer of Vikram Bhatt’s Hate Story has fired up the viral world. She’s unapologetic: “It’s a bold film, but it’s been aesthetically shot. Nothing is forced. I knew what I had to do and not once did I feel, ‘How can I
do this?’”

Pointing out that the trailer tells the story of love and betrayal that puts a girl-next-door journalist on the path of revenge, she says, “I’m choosy about what I do, but once I make a decision, I’ve no inhibitions as an actor. We’re in 2012 and I’m a professional who was lucky to land a female-centric Bollywood debut film with a multi-dimensional character and the scope to perform.”

She has received no obscene calls or threats since the video launched on Youtube. “People today are mature enough to accept something that’s justified in the script,” she reasons. “Hate Story is a film I want every woman to watch. What happens to Kavya (her character) could well happen to you too.”

Meanwhile, the ‘hottest’ newcomer in Bollywood today insists there’s a lot more to come, though she isn’t expecting to be tagged a sex symbol.
Paoli in a still from Hate Story

“I don’t intend to repeat myself,” she asserts. “Playing Kavya once is okay. Twice? No way! I’ve always been open to experimenting with different roles that have something for me. There are plenty of interesting offers. I’ll decide after Hate Story releases on April 20.”

Trade buzzing
“The trailer on YouTube has created tremendous buzz. The combo of fiery dialogue and explicit visuals always works,” says trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Distributor Vinay Chowksi of VP Enterprises believes that given the subject and its promotion, the film could be “too bold” for family audiences frequenting multiplexes in the metros.

“But it should find takers at single screens in the B and C centres (smaller towns and interiors). I’m just waiting to see how much the censors will pass.” Director Vivek Agnihotri argues that the intent was not to titillate but celebrate the power of a woman who uses her biggest disadvantage, her body, to her advantage. “It shocks because you’ve never heard something like this before, but in the context of the story and the way it’s shot, it’s an entertaining film for all centres and audiences.”
