Serial blasts and arson attacks on vehicles left two people dead and scores of others injured in the capital city of Dhaka and Sylhet Sunday, in a latest spell of outbreaks in the political arena.
In the capital, a youth was killed and another received severe burn injuries in a cocktail explosion in Motijheel commercial area at about 9:30 am, police and witnesses said.
In Sylhet, a bus passenger was burnt to death as agitated opposition activists set the bus on fire in protest against police action on party leaders and activists as they were gathering to hold a reception to honour freedom fighters in the capital.

However, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman said police picked up a total of 249 persons from different parts of the capital “for their involvement in bomb explosion and vandalism”.
Police and hospital sources in the city said a driving licence was found inside the pocket of the deceased, identified as Arifuzzaman Arif 25, son of Joynal Abedin of Bhedarganj of Shariatpur. He was a resident of Uttar Goran in the city.
Police claimed the victim himself was carrying the bomb which accidentally went off. His body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Motijheel Police Station Tofazzal Hossain said: “Four youths were clambering over a barbed-wire fence placed on a road divider just in front of Hotel Ghoroa adjacent to Motijheel Shapla crossing.”
