Iraq hit by series of fatal bombings

At least 15 killed and 20 others wounded in explosions in Baghdad and near Abu Ghraib, according to Iraqi officials.
A roadside bombing near the central town of Abu Ghraib and several explosions in the centre of Baghdad have killed at least 15 people and wounded 20 others, according to Iraqi officials.
At least eight people were killed and 13 injured on Saturday after a minibus transporting construction workers hit an improvised explosive device near Abu Ghraib, an interior ministry official said at the time.
The ministry official said that the road where the attack occurred is frequently used by the Iraqi armed forces.
A health official at Abu Ghraib general hospital confirmed the casualty figures, while a police source said that two bombs had exploded minutes apart in the village of al-Zaidan.
"It was a roadside bomb that went off near a pick-up carrying construction workers in Zobaa village west of Abu Ghraib," he said.
Three bombs also exploded in Tahrir Square in the Baab al-Sharqi area of central Baghdad, killing four people and wounding 20 others, officials said at the time. The predominantly Shia area is popular with street vendors selling CDs and other items.
"Three bombs exploded one after the other. I saw a woman, who was serving tea to customers, lose a leg in one of the explosions," a young vendor selling clothes near the site told the Associated Press.
Violence has ebbed across Iraq, but deadly bombings and shootings still occur almost daily as US troops prepare to leave by the end of the year.
