BNP’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said the government wants to hold election under Awami League in power to run parliament in a 'controlled manner with a pet opposition'.
He told this to reporters when they asked him to comment on Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad’s reported suggestion to hold the next general election without BNP.
JP chief made the comment during a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday.
“They (Ershad) can make such statements as they don’t believe in democracy,” Fakhrul said after placing a wreath on the grave of BNP founder late president Ziaur Rahman.
The BNP acting secretary general along with leaders and workers of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal went there to mark the 31st founding anniversary of Krishak Dal.
He was on the Chandrima Udyan premises where the grave of BNP founder late president Ziaur Rahman situated.
About the trial of war criminals, he said the process the government is pursuing in holding the trial of war criminals is 'not transparent and neutral'.
Replying to another question, he said the BNP led-four party alliance would be expanded.
Demanding reduction in the prices of electricity, fuel and agri-inputs, Fakhrul said the Awami League government claims itself to be farmer-friendly, but does not work for the farmers’ interest.
