With more than one million views since its Dec. 18 posting, the heartfelt message from an Austin, Tex., teenager about his lifelong heart condition even caught the attention of musician Kid Cudi(real name: Scott Mescudi).
In the YouTube clips titled "This Is My Story," Breedlove, who suffered from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), described via note cards how he cheated death three times in his short life.
"It is a very serious and dangerous condition," one of the cards said of HCM. "As I grew older I learned more that it is dangerous. It has scared me a lot, and I hate that feeling."
Breedlove goes on to say that the first time he "cheated death" he was 4, and suffered from a massive seizure. He says he saw a big bright light. "I couldn't take my eyes off of it. And I couldn't help but smile. I had no worries at all, like nothing else in the world mattered."
He says he cheated death again this summer, and then again Dec. 6, and he says he found himself in a long white room while unconscious ... along with his "favorite rapper" Cudi, and he had the same peaceful feeling again before going on to explain the vision in detail.
The musician took to his Tumblr account to comment.
"I am so sad about Ben Breedlove. I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart,” he said. “I broke down ... because I hate how life is so unfair."
He went on to add, “This has really touched my heart in a way I can't describe, this is why I do what I do. Why I write my life, and why I love you all so much. Life is really [expletive] sometimes, but I know Ben is at Peace, and I hope he gets a chance to sit and talk with my Dad. We love you Ben. Forever. Thank you for loving me. To Ben’s family, you raised a real hero, he’s definately [sic] mine. You have my love.”
