Dhaka, Jan 8 (bdnews24.com) — The route of Dhaka's proposed metro rail has already been finalised and the government will sign a deal with Japan in March, officials have said.
Executive director of Dhaka Transport Coordination Board (DTCB) S M Salehuddin told bdnews24.com on Sunday that Japan will provide US$ 2 billion for the project.
Also the managing director of special project organisation for metro rail, Salehuddin said that there will be 15 stops along the route from Uttara to the Bangladesh Bank intersection through Mirpur-10 intersection, Farmgate, Doel Square and National Press Club.
The DTCB official also said that the route would run adjacent to the parliament complex.
Various environment organisations and urban planners, however, have been saying that the present design of the metro rail could cause harm to the main design of the parliament complex when the project is implemented.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Oct 16 last year said that the modified metro rail route would not ruin the main architectural design of the parliament complex.
Salehuddin also said that a letter was sent to the communications ministry for approval of the speed of the train.
